Sea Scouts through to Final of Competition
The semi-final of the Scout Patrol Weekend Competition, sponsored by the German Fruit Juice Advisory Service was held at Broadstone Warren National Scout Camp Site, Forest Row, recently.
The competition is being held in conjunction with the Scout Association as part of their 1972 European Friendship Year, and involves hundreds of patrols in the north-west and London areas of England. The Scout Patrols, groups of six to eight boys between the ages of 11 and 16, matched their skills in camping, cooking and "It's a Knockout" style games, and in between games they refreshed themselves with samples of pure fruit juice handed out by a member of the German Fruit Juice Advisory Service, who was dressed in traditional German folk costume.
Mr Tony Gooch, a member of the German Fruit Juice Advisory Service, thanked the Scouts for attending and announced the four winning troops to be: 1, 1st Ifield; 2 15th Finchley; 3, 1st East Grinstead; 4, 8th Lambeth. The patrols then received two cases of fruit juice each. They go on to compete in the finals at the Gilwell Park Camp Site near Chingford, on the weekend of September 24
The other entrants, although losing the chance of a week-end in Germany, which is the first prize of the competition, did not go home empty-handed. Each one was given a bottle of fruit juice together with a certificate which commended them for their participation and perseverance in the competition
