1980 Soap Box Derby

PIANO SMASHING and welly throwing were two of the entertainments on offer at the East Grinstead and District Scouts soap box and derby fair held in the town on Saturday. Part of the proceeds are for equipment for the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
King George's playing field, where the event was held, was the site of many broken records during the afternoon, when the district Scouts with visiting Scout groups, took' part in go-kart racing.
Every age group in the Scout movement was represented. Some karts skidded and crashed, and some wheels were lost, but there were no casualties.
The results were: Cubs: 1 7th East Grinstead (42 points), 2 6th East Grinstead (41), 3 Blackboys and Framfield, visiting team 30). Scouts: 1 1st East Grinstead (52), 2 8th East Grinstead (43), 3 Blackboys and Framfield (30). Scout leaders: 1 1st East Grinstead, 2 8th East Grinstead, 3 Blackboys and Framfield.
