1st East Grinstead Scout Group
Centenary 1908 - 2008

The Islands of Guernsey, Sark and Herm can be visited from Jersey and the older boys at least should take the opportunity to do this.  The whole conditions on the Islands are very interesting and totally different from anything in England. The Islanders themselves are a very fine race of pure Norman blood. They speak both French and English, and are famous for swimming and diving. They are mostly farmers, cultivating small areas of land on intensive principles. They are naturally very proud of their Norman descent. On a visit Jersey recently the thing that struck me most was the fact that they all seemed to be highly educated and knew all about the history of their own Island and of England.

This Summer Camp should be one of the best the Troop has ever had, it is up to every boy who goes to make up his mind beforehand that he is going to make it the best Camp of all, and also that he is going to learn all he can about one of the most interesting corners of the Empire.
