Nutley Campsite
It will be noted from previous Annual Reports that Dr Walker provided a campsite at Nutley ‘Scoutly’ which boasted hutted accommodation and a swimming pool, perhaps best described as a ‘pond’. The Group used this site most weekends with Patrols cycling to the site.
Dr Walker stood down as Group Scout Leader in 1947, and was replaced by Edgar Cooper, who had joined the Wolf Cub Pack in 1929. Dr Walker held many varied roles during his long scouting service, Scout Leader, Group Scout Leader, District Scout Leader, and Assistant County Commissioner Rover Scouts. During the years 1910 to 1947 Dr Walker was the 1st East Grinstead Scout Group. In acknowledgement of Dr walkers achievement one of the current Cub Packs within the Group is called ‘Walker Pack’.
In addition to Dr Walker’s scouting activities, during the 1940’s he was also a member of the East Grinstead Urban District Council and for a period was Chairman of the Council.
The following photographs are the few that have been traced of the Nutley Campsite.
