The arena programme opened with a physical training display by the 1st East Grinstead Troop under the direction of G.S.M. Cooper. The troop is famed for such displays. Then came the delightful parade of the toy soldiers presented by the 1st East Grinstead Wolf Cub Pack (under the direction of Mr. D. Henry).
Eighty-two yards of material had been used in making the colourful soldier uniforms.
The Pack last presented the "parade" at the Whitsun fete in 1929 and G.S.M. Cooper was one of the Cubs who took part in that display. His wife, Mrs. Betty Cooper, is now Cubmistress of the pack.
The Scouts then gave a pioneering display and this was followed by the Wolf Cub circus. A repeat P.T. display was also given by the Scouts. A children's corner was set up on the terrace fronting the Council offices and here young children amused themselves with toys kindly loaned by Stildon Nursery, East Grinstead.
Mr. F. Rogers, of the Parents' Committee, organised the side-shows and Mrs. T. Pannell was in charge of the refreshments. Also assisting at the fete were East Grinstead Round Tablers and their wives, and members of the East Grinstead branch of the Commercial Travellers' Association. Mr. E. J. Dakin operated the public address system.
