Leaders who have served the 1st East Grinstead Scout Group
As reported earlier, initially appointment of leaders was undertaken at a local level by committees. It was some time after 1908 that a National Headquarters was established and details of leader appointments were listed in a national publication., Headquarters Gazette. I have been fortunate that the ex Archivist of the Scout Association, Graham Coombes has provided me with details of all warrants issued from 1909 until 1939, to the East Grinstead Area
The details of warrants issued since this time were recorded on a card index. In the 1990’s this index was converted to an electronic index when current appointments were transferred to a National database. The card index for the period up to 1990 was then offered to counties for safe keeping, but my enquires of the West Sussex County office have failed to trace these record cards and it is likely that they have been destroyed.
As District Appointments Secretary, I hold District records. I have a minute book of the Appointments Sub Committee which dates from 1968 through to 1990. Since this time District records have been held electronically.
The period between 1940 and 1968, is incomplete and records have been found from Press reports and Annual reports. Below is listed those leaders who have served the group since 1908 listed in date order
